Camille Does Hillary

It's been a while since I've read anything - or, for that matter, come across anything - by Camille Paglia, super-smart but always somewhat misdirected. But in this Canadian newspaper interview, she captures perfectly everything wrong (or at least what seems wrong) about Hillary Clinton. Hopefully the link stays alive.

MPAA Follies

Everyone at least glances at the MPAA rating of a movie, but few notice that the MPAA is often very specific with its ratings. Here's a list someone compiled of the funniest/silliest ratings justifications.

The best MPAA rating of all still goes to John Waters' "Pink Flamingos," which gets an NC-17 "for a whole range of perversions in explicit detail." Which is both accurate and a bit of an in-joke between Waters and his frequent adversaries.

There Will Be Blood

Several months ago I was shocked to learn that Upton Sinclair wrote something on the order of 98 books in his lifetime, many of them hugely popular, and yet most people (myself) included only know him for "The Jungle." Amazing how the passage of time shoves things under the bed.

Anyway, Paul Thomas Anderson's "There Will Be Blood" is an upcoming adaptation of a Sinclair novel called "Oil!" but if Anderson made it up no one would have likely thought twice about verifying the claim. At least it's pretty safe to say no snobs will be coming out of the woodwork to insist the book is better.

The teaser and trailer can be viewed here.
